The project is situated by the mountainside, just a few miles away from the most developed area of Taipei City. The original house, which was over 30 years old, underwent a transformation into a modern design that embraces the warmth of nature. The use of teak, a commonly used material in Taiwan, brings out the rich luster and natural characteristics that the owners desired.
One of the unique features of the Serenity project is the integration of the open kitchen, dining, and living room into one cohesive space. This design choice allows for the close bonding of family members during their day-to-day activities. Additionally, a second living room was designed specifically for the children, providing them with their own private space within the house.
The design team took advantage of the mountainside location and incorporated larger windows in every space to enhance natural sunlight and connect the interior with the surrounding nature. The garden view in the backyard and the city view in the front yard were leveraged to create a harmonious blend of indoor and outdoor living.
With a total area of 313.5 square meters spread across three stories, the Serenity project offers ample space for the family's needs. The use of warm-toned wood, marble, and grey tiles resembling stones creates a serene and inviting atmosphere throughout the house.
One of the challenges faced during the design process was balancing the desire for natural sunlight with the need for privacy. To address this, the position of the windows was carefully considered to ensure optimal lighting while maintaining a sense of seclusion from the neighboring houses.
Completed in 2019, the Serenity project has been recognized for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. This prestigious award celebrates designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
Overall, the Serenity project exemplifies the idea of home as a sanctuary, providing a place of calmness and tranquility. By incorporating natural elements and maximizing natural sunlight, this design creates an ideal living environment for a family to recharge and escape from the busy lifestyle of the city.
